Hi,

I own a 2006 VW Touareg which I brought from a dealer in November last year.
When purchased it came with a 12 month engine and transmission warranty excluding serviceable items, bushes and belts.

I have just had my first service since it was purchased, and wen I went to pick it up they said there were a few issues with it.

Firstly there is a coolant leak coming from the thermostat housing which was estimated to be $1150 to repair.
Next there was a faulty steering rack which was estimated to be $2040 to repair, and finally an issue with the brakes which they believe to be caused by a faulty vacuum pump which was estimated to be $517 to repair.

When I approached the company I brought it off they said they were sorry to hear I was having issues, however these were not covered under the warranty.

I wanted to see what your thoughts were on this? as I'm having a hard time believing that these issues would fall into the category of serviceable items.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Regards
Nick

Hi there,
I would think that a thermostat leak would at least be covered under the engine warranty.
The others don't really fit under engine or transmission.
Is the warranty through a company and what does the policy wording state as in listed components cover vs not covered?
You may need to use the CGA (disputes tribunal) and see if your rights continue despite the warranty, they may see it as an acceptable problem to be encountered in a 12 year old vehicle of this nature. https://www.consumerprotection.govt.nz/help-product-service/cars/solving-issues-car-dealer/

Thanks for the quick response.

On the vehicle offer and sales agreement under special conditions it states 12 month warranty, but does not say any list of included or excluded items other than what I stated in the previous message. It also doesn't say if it's through a 3rd party or though this company.

I will take a look at this website now.
