I received a fine while I was in a store for 10mins. I came back to my car to find a warning plus a fine for $200 stating the label was not affixed in appropriate manner etc. the pocket sleeve that holds the registration has been on the car since I bought it and never had any issues. Could it be that the fine is there because the registration was overdue? I’m confused as to why I have to pay this fine even tho it was in the correct place

Hi there,
There are two fine possibilities here 1/ correct label position, location visibility etc, and 2/ the validity of the date on the label.
The warning may be because of the date expiry and the fine for the label position, or the other way round as both issues are worth a $200 fine each.

The label is fine, is very clear for anyone to read it and it’s in the bottom left corner like everyone else’s car. If it’s cause the rego is overdue, then I get it. But I thought legally AT can’t fine you for it being overdue? I’m getting it done today, would sending them proof of that have any affect on the fine getting taken away?

AT have more of a responsibility than just parking tickets these days. You can send in, but I'm not sure it will help. Statistically there has been a very low success rate in these types of disputes, but still worth a shot.

Okay good to know. Thanks so much for your help, I’m probably just going to pay tonight and get it out the way
