Hi AA Expert,

Question is about my Mazda Verisa 1.5 Petrol 2004 105,00 Kms.

After last car service at 100,000 Kms (12 months ago), I noticed that yellow engine light start showing up. After conducting a diagnostics by mechanic, I was suggest to use high octane fuel 98 instead of 91. I think mechanic might have used low grade engine oil which is showing yellow light.

Next month, I plan to buy AA Gold service for my car. My question is do you recommend to do for engine flush or not?

Thanks for your reply in advance.

I'm unsure of what fault the mechanic has discovered, the suggestion to use a higher octane fuel my indicate that he has discovered that the vehicle is running lean.

I would look under the bonnet and listen for a hissing sound around plastic pipes an hoses. An intake leak from a split hose or plastic pipe could cause the computer to display a warning if the engine is running too lean.

Oil is unlikely to fix this issue find what the fault is before committing to a new service or flush.

Thanks Ian.

I think mechanic refer to P0328 code and hence ask me to change fuel from 91 to 98. I have noticed that engine light lit occasionally such as I encountered this problem roughly 5-6 months ago and after changing fuel from 91-98 it stopped. And now, from last 2 weeks it lit once every week.

I have also noticed that engine light lit ONLY when I start car in morning (within 1-2 mins). However, If I travel few kms, stop and restart the car, light did not shows.

What are your recommendations?

Thanks
