Last WOF at AA the inspector complained that my safety chain was attached to the trailer with a shackle. I did make the case that it was a new trailer and the safety chain was fitted this way by the manufacturer (Briford), they conceded this and issued a WOF. What is the current rules applying to safety chains attachment to the trailer. My trailer is less than 2000Kg

Hi there,
The NZTA wof requirements does not specify the method of chain attachment and it is worded that the chain must be securely fastened. The shackle and chain must be capable of withstanding the max laden weight of the trailer. https://vehicleinspection.nzta.govt.nz/virms/in-service-wof-and-cof/general-trailers/towing-connections/light-trailer-drawbar-and-kingpin
