A new cam belt (full kit) was fitted to my Subaru Legacy by my garage in July 2017. Five months later (less than 12,000km) the cam belt partially came off, resulting in engine damage, beyond repair. A replacement engine is to be installed. Note, the belt did not break, but partially came off. The kit had a 12 month/20,000km warranty.

Who is responsible for the cost of repairs (including replacement engine)?

Thanks Ian. The reason why the belt partially came off has not yet been determined, but the parts are to be examined by the manufacturer. The belt rode up over the lip which is intended to hold it in place.
