Hi, we purchased a brand new car last week, we noticed yesterday that there is a slight ripple in the hood, the paint has not been chipped it appears the damage has come from under the hood and pushed up. we contacted the agent today who suggested he knows a guy that will be able to get the ripple out but i am not keen on a brand new car needing panel beating, are we entitled to ask for a replacement or do we have to just put up and have it fixed, there are also light scratches on both wing mirrors which we presume may have been done in transit or when getting detailed? Just wondering where we stand legally. cheers

Hi there,
For minor defects, the vehicle manufacturer can repair as they see fit to get the vehicle presented back in a satisfactory condition. They might try a mobile dent and scratch removal company (without panel beating, painting ect) to start with. And then move on to others remedies as required, this would seen to be within the CGA responsibilities. As long as the vehicle is presented back to you in a satisfactory condition, the method of repair is usually up the to the vehicle seller. https://www.consumerprotection.govt.nz/get-guidance/buying-maintaining-and-renting-a-car/solving-issues-with-your-car-dealer/

Many thanks, had hoped we had a bit more clout with new car but guess it is partly our fault for not going over the car properly when we went to pick it up.
