Hi, I had my car serviced today, although the WOF didn't expire until the end of December I decided it would be more convenient to get it done at the same time. Later in the day the service provider called to notify me the car had failed the WOF on several (expensive) items and that they had now entered the failed result in the "system" so the vehicle no longer had a current WOF, despite the fact there was almost 3 months left on the existing WOF. As I was unwilling to drive an unwarranted vehicle I have left it night so the repairs can be carried out tomorrow. Is there any way I can have the original WOF reinstated? Thanks.

Hi there,
Unfortunately being pro-active can have a downside. There is no provision for reinstatement, a wof inspection has to be recorded even if the vehicle has failed, this means the vehicle is classed as unfit for the road according to the wof safety standards. So regardless if the sticker is current or not a failure ends the validity of the wof, the vehicle will need repairing in order to become fit for the road again. So if you drove it around till the wof actually expired (on the sticker) an officer can look up your vehicle details they will see it as being un warranted.
