I reversed into a vehicle at a bridge crossing some time ago. I was stopped at a bridge giving way to incoming traffic, and after I started moving I saw a motorcycle coming towards me on the one lane bridge. I therefore stopped as I was the give way vehicle, and checked my mirrors before reversing. As I was driving a high 4wd van at the time, and the following vehicle was low and extremely close (must have been less than a foot of clearance between us for him to be not visible in my mirrors) I did not see him behind me and so reversed into him. Is this my fault? Or are we both at fault? The rental company has sent me a bill four months later for the full cost of repairing the car

Hi there,
In 99% of these incidents, the reversing vehicle is found to be at fault. You must reverse with all care and responsibility and make sure that the way is clear throughout the complete manoeuvre. So in this case, I would say the sole responsibility would lie with you.
