I've recently helped my son sell a car. There was a clear WOF done ~3 weeks before sale, as required. It was a private sale, no dealers were involved.

A month later the buyer phones to say that "the front sub-frame bolts are seized and this should have been a WOF failure" I was totally unaware of this fault, but I know the car had work done ~9 months ago on the area so its plausible.

What are the obligations of my WOF provider, if any?

What about the garage that did the original work? Are they obliged to make the repair right even though the car is now under a different owner?

I've spoken with my WOF guy who said that "subframe bolts would not be undone during a WOF" so a seized nut wouldn't be picked up.

Still interested in your thoughts - is the Buyer pulling my leg?

Hi there,
This is correct, seized bolts will not be picked up or inspected during a wof inspection (why would anyone be wanting to undo a sub frame bolt during an inspection at any rate?)
As the seized bolts are not part of a wof inspection, there is no obligation to you or the wof issuer. Private sales have no GCA (consumer guarantees act) comeback, and no warranties implied.
