Hello

Last week I purchased a 2017 Yamaha MT07LA (LAMS approved) but yesterday I received the Certificate of Registration in the mail and whoever at the NZTA has entered the details has registered the bike as the 689cc model and not the LAMS approved 655cc which I have.

Annoying as this is I have filled out the relevant form for change of details along with the sales agreement stating the actual bike I purchased.

My main concern here is that it can take 20 days for them to change these details and in the time I am certainly going to be riding the bike. I'm sure the police will have a field day with me when they run the plates and see a learner is riding a "689cc" bike. I plan to carry the sales agreement around with me just in case but I'm wondering if I can actually be held liable for any fines if I can prove that the bike is LAMS approved?

Any input would be of much help!

Hi there,
It would be very unlucky if you did get stopped and the officer proceeded to give you a ticket, despite the explanation. But only an individual officer could give you an answer on this one.
