I had an AA man around to help start my car today. He advised me to switch to 95 instead of 91 (for our Nissan 200SX and Laser Liata) as the extra efficiency would more than compensate for the additional cost ie the extra km per litre would be 'significant'.

Is this the case - I note for example that the MTA website states that it will make very little difference!

Hi there,
If the Nissan is turbocharged, then I would run at least 95 octane.
However if not, 91 would be fine. Our studies conclude, the benefits are offset by the extra
cost you pay for fuel. So we would say the mta are correct, it really would make little difference.

Interesting - as my 200SX is (auto) turbo but 91 is the recommended fuel

Ok, in that case keep using 91.
From my experience, I have found most older japanese turbos prefer the higher octane fuel.

In fairness the manual said 'at least' 91. I will try 95 and see if it makes a difference. Thanks again for the advice.
