Hi,

I have a 2004 Toyota Harrier that I have been using for work. Our current mileage rate is 0.77 per km, but after speaking to others working in the same industry who us their own cars, I wanted to check I am receiving the correct amount as they are paid out at higher rates per km. Also, I have put ~2,000 km on the car in 6 months. Is there any other compensation for high travel rates I should be aware of?

Thank you!

77c per km is the IRD rate across all vehicles and is a generous rate for an 11 year old vehicle.
While the AA rate for a 3.0 litre petrol powered vehicle would be 80c per km, this is based on a 3 to 5 year old vehicle where depreciation is a major factor. At 11 years of age, a vehicle has already depreciated significantly, so the true running cost may only be around 50c per km.
