The AA's 2014 Petrol running costs report gives a mileage rate of 80c/km for a 3L vehicle like a Mazda MPV, but notes that this is for a 5 year old vehicle. The report notes that the mileage rate may be different for an older vehicle due to the higher level of depreciation.

Can you give a rough estimate of what a realistic mileage rate would be for a 2004 Mazda MPV with 100,000kms on the clock? My employer has asked me to submit a mileage expense claim and I'd like to use a mileage rate which is as fair and realistic as possible.

Many thanks

As depreciation is a major component to running a vehicle and an older vehicle has already depreciated somewhat, it's not easy to say for sure, as the only true way is to keep all receipts and calculate actual costs for each individual vehicle.
However, as a guide, perhaps somewhere around 55c per m may be a reasonable figure.
