My question is around petrol tax.
When I last owned a boat many years ago I could, by filling in a form supported by receipts, obtain a credit of the road tax portion of the petrol price I used in the boat.
I have recently purchased another trailer boat and wonder if it is still possible to obtain a refund on the road tax portion of the petrol used in the boat.

The reply below is from our Motoring Affairs team in Wellington who monitor and comment on fuel prices and taxes.
Petrol used in a non-commercial boat is not eligible for a Fuel Excise Duty refund, as explained in the factsheet on the NZ Transport Agency website.
You could look at it that the petrol tax you pay in your boat fuel covers the cost of the road use and damage incurred by your trailer as you tow it to and from the jetty.
What about a boat that is berthed at a marina?
