Hi there,
For a new VW Passat wagon AWD 2.0 TDI for business/ company use - self employed; what would be fair in your opinion to charge clients a mileage rate? I intend to cover much of the South Island and will need to recover some or possibly all my running costs while acting fair and reasonable about it. Typical example of a trip will be 350 km's return - 700km's return & up to as much as 1150km's return trip from home. I have played round with figures ranging from 45 cents to 75 cents per km while looking over the information provided on this website along with the IRD website. A few cents can make quite a difference to the net amount over these distances while over larger distances it would appear to be cheaper to fly. Flying isn't a option as not only do I need the car but will possibly have a light trailer in tow too. As mentioned I want to be fair and reasonable as I see it as a cost recovery rather than trying to profit from it - if this makes sense. I'm feeling rather stuck on this one so your opinion or any feedback will be greatly appreciated, many thanks!!

The AA's calculation for a diesel car to 2.0 litre capacity is 68.7c per km.
