The usual price difference between these fuels is 8 cents per litre which according to the AA is too much .
Most disturbing now , is to see the 6 cents per litre Smartfuel discount sign on display , to then discover that the price difference is 13 cents per litre . This particularly seems to be a BP and Caltex price rorting policy in some stations, and is for 95 octane fuel not 98 . The 91 hasn't been discounted so that doesn't explain the difference .
My question to the AA is what are you doing to police this and protect members who use 95 octane fuel .
The current national price of 91 octane is $2.12/litre, so 95 should be no more than $2.20/litre (and 98 $2.28/litre). If you have noticed some retailers selling 95 for more than $2.20/litre please email aatech@aa.co.nz with the name and location of the service stations so we can investigate.
