Hi.
I was wondering how should I calculate fuel & running costs for a 1992 Toyota FX GT if I was driving 16kim on the Auckland Motorway.
Thank you.
A 1.6 litre car would be 64.2 c per km (apologies that I quoted the diesel rate of 68.7c per km to you earlier), however this is calculated on a car at the 3rd year of age where depreciation is the biggest component of running a vehicle. A 21 year old car has depreciated significantly, so the real cost might only be half that figure.
The running cost figure includes fuel, but if you only want to know the fuel cost only, based on a fuel consumption of around 8L/100 km, that equates to 1.28 litres to travel 16km, so around $2.84 or approx 17.8c per km.
If the reason for wanting this information relates to employee reimbursement, it really comes down to the employer and employee negotiating a fair rate.
