Hi, would you please help met with the following?
What is the fuel cost per kilometer ($/km) for a Mitsubishi Pajero 3.5GDI LWB GLS Year : 2000 Petrol?
Kind regards
Anette
Our calculations are based on a vehicle at the 3rd year of age and a large 3.5 litre petrol vehicle works out to be $1.07 per km. However, as we've said on this forum previously, it is not always easy to calculate running costs for an older vehicle as the major part of the cost of running a vehicle is the capital outlay and depreciation. For a 13 year old vehicle, the value is much lower and the depreciation is negligable.
FYI, the IRD rate for all vehicles is 77c per km and this would be closer to the true cost of running your 13 year old Pajero, but it really depends on the reason you need to know the running cost. If it is for tax purposes, you can use the IRD rate but need to keep log books and receipts etc. If it is a negotiation between an employer and employee, it's best to sit down and discuss a fair rate to both parties.
