Hi, can you give me towing capacity/reliability on a 1995 Mazda Marvie Proceed, 2.6 petrol manual? Is there a lot of difference between the diesel and petrol 2.6 when it comes to towing? Would be pulling a horse float, avge weight loaded 1200, braked. Maximum distance from Auckland north/south 200km

The Mazda Marvie is a Japanese import, and unfortunately Japanese manufacturers don't list towing weights for their domestic market vehicles.
However, the closest thing that the Marvie lines up with is a Mazda Bounty, which has a maximum braked towing weight of 1,500kg.
While diesel is preferable from a torque perspective, there is no difference in the listed towing weight, as towing weights are calculated on the vehicle's ability to stop. This must be within 7 metres from a speed of 30km/h.
So, in summary, your vehicle should be fine to tow a load of 1,200kg.
