Is there a noticeable difference in fuel costs between auto & manual cars of the same cc rating? And which would be more economical for trips around town?

Generally vehicles fitted with conventional automatic transmissions are known to use slightly more fuel than a manual transmission but this differs with CVT (Continuously Variable Transmission) type transmissions. The CVTs have slightly better claimed fuel economy that manual transmissions - this is why so many vehicle manufacturers are using CVTs. But in most cases there is only a 0.6L/100km - 1L/100km difference in fuel economy. Manual transmissions will use less fuel around town than an auto transmission vehicle (driving with economy in mind).
