Hi
I have a 1998 Toyota Carib and have been been looking at the fuel consumption to decide whether to buy another car or not.
I usually get 350km off 40L of petrol. I calculated this to be about 11km per 100L. Is this very uneconomical?
Although I have just had my car serviced, I'm wondering whether there is a fault with the engine.
Any advice/comments would be helpful.
Thanks
While fuel economy should be A deciding factor in making a purchasing decision, I'm not sure that is should be THE reason to change your car.
11L/100km isn't great, but it's about the norm for a vehicle from this era.
If you upgrade, you'll be spending a lot more money (probably thousands more). For every 1L/100km the fuel efficiency improves, your saving will only be around $200 for every 10,000km you travel.
Hence, from a pure economics point of view, there may not be a great benefit in upgrading.
