Hi there, yesterday I filled my car up at BP as I always do, unfortunately this time the cut off switch didn't appear to work so when the car was full the petrol then started gushing out the tank on to the concrete. I was offered a free coffee (which I declined) but had to pay for the petrol on the ground that did not make it into the tank. The manager didn't bother to come out to have a look but assured me there was less that a litre on the ground so that was that. Clearly there was more. He also told me that if I needed assistance filling my tank I should come inside and get some help, implying that it was me not knowing how to put petrol in the tank. I am pretty disgusted in the lack of customer service by BP. Legally am I still obligated to pay for petrol that has spilled through no fault of mine?. thanks

This is a most unusual situation. We've never heard of it happening, but would love to know a bit more in order to follow it up for you. At face value, we don't believe you should have to pay for fuel you didn't receive if it's not your fault.
We'd appreciate more details to be emailed to us at aatech@aa.co.nz , such as time, date, location etc.
Many thanks.
