I've managed to gather up more specifics of my plans and the vehicle I will be using. Can I ask you to perform your mathematical magic again and come up with what my all inclusive running cost per Km will be?
````
Mitsubishi Fuso CANTER 6 BERTH 2006 Asking price: $74,990
Kilometres: 189,116km Engine Size : 3900 CC.
I will do 10,000km over 2 years
Insurance will $757 a year
I'm advised by the selling dealer .... "If its kept in good condition with an extra 10,000kms on the clock this would still be classed as a good secondhand vehicle so you'd get maybe $70,000 for it."
Therefore. with a bit of luck depreciation will be $5000 over 2 years.
Thanks
I think the dealer's prediction is wildly optomistic... I imagine he'd be unwilling to put that in writing! As a guide, think of the value of this vehicle in 2 year's time with around 200,000km on the clock as equating to a 2004 vehicle today. Here are a couple of examples;
2004 Canter Motorhome example 1
2004 Canter Motorhome example 2
Assuming the vehicle will be worth, say $55k in 2 years time, the depreciation alone is $10,000 per annum without interest or any other factors, so at 5,000km pa, that's $2.00 per km plus your fuel, tyres, insurance, servicing, WOF's, registration and other costs.
Like your previous example, it's almost impossible to calculate an accurate figure on a vehicle such as this, but I'd imagine you're looking at approx $3.00+ per km (assuming no major failures, which on a 200,000km vehicle is an unknown).
"I think the dealer's prediction is wildly optimistic" Thanks for that, I had my suspicions but was hopeful :-)
I appreciate your time, research and examples, which gives me enough to make a decision.
