My 1994 Mazda Familia used to get approximately 450km from a full tank until a month or so ago when it started getting only 250km from 40 litres. There doesn't seem to be any obvious leak - is there anything else that could cause this?
That is very high consumption for a Mazda Familia. It sounds like perhaps a temperature sensor may be playing up causing the engine to run too rich.
A cold engine needs a richer mixture which results in high fuel consumption. When the engine warms up, the mixture leans out, giving better economy.
I'd suggest getting your mechanic to check the cold start system to see if it is staying on, causing the engine to run too rich when it is warm.
