Hi
I am looking to purchase this model (2004). i am doing around 25,000k a year and want to know if I am better off getting the 2.4 engine or the 2litre. I usually have 3-4 burly teenagers, groceries and cricket gear for 6 months of the year for most of my driving. Someone said the 2 litre may be slightly underpowered and I may end up using more gas with this engine. Thanks
There is some truth to what you have been told. When heavily laden, a less powerful car will need to be pushed harder to get the same performance, so fuel consumption will increase.
The other factor to consider in addition to general fuel consumption is which car is more fit for the desired purpose. In your case, perhaps the one with the bigger engine may use a little more fuel over the course of a year (given that it will not always be loaded up with people and gear), but as you have a need to carry heavy loads a fair amount of the time, you might find the more powerful car easier to live with.
Hi,
I was in a similar situation and we just bought the 2.0 2004 Accord. It is an import so it was around 10k compared to the 2.4's which were mostly NZ New and selling for 13k upwards. We called Ingham Honda and spoke to them regarding the differences in this Accord vs the one that was sold new. Apparently. the 2.0 has a bit more torque in the lower revs than the 2.4 although the bigger engine is obviously more powerful overall. We find the acceleration is pretty good in the 5 speed auto because of this extra torque and it has no problems holding 100km/h on an open road with a full load. We get about 650 kms on a tank of 91- mixture of open road and city driving, and you can get an extra 100km on top of that if you use 95. One thing Honda did tell us was to avoid the version with the touch screen/sat nav system in the imports. The aircon runs through this as well as the stereo and if it develops an electrical fault it can be around $1500 to fix
Cheers
