Ask an expert
Kiaora, I do a lot of driving with my job and I get a car allowance of 75c per km which I have to claim back at the end of the month from work. I'm not a contractor nor GST registered. Is there any tax deductions that I can claim as well because I'm using my vehicle for work- without being a contractor?
Thanks in advance
We're not tax experts, so you'd need to talk to your accountant about this. However, if your employer is reimbursing you 75c per km, that equates (or is actually 1c per km more) to the IRD allowable rate, so I don't know if there's anything else you could legitimately claim, as the rate is the entire running cost allowance (including fuel, insurance, reg, WOF, R&M, depreciation etc).
However, as I said, ask your accountant.
