Hi,
I would like to know the running costs for a Mazda Efini MS-8 1993 model for working out the travel expenses.
Also how can i increase the fuel efficiency
The AA's running cost schedules are worked out on vehicles at the third year of age, as they're mainly used for business purposes. The biggest component of vehicle running costs is the depreciation, which on a 19 year old car no longer applies to any great extent.
For a starting point if negotiating with your employer (or third party) a 2.5 litre car has a rate of 78.1c per km according to our schedule, however, this is calculated on an average vehicle value of $27,421. Obviously, your vehicle is of significantly less value. IRD allows an average across the board of 74c per km.
In terms of negotiating with your employer for travel expenses, you will need to agree a fair rate between yourselves.
There's no real way of improving the economy on your Efini MS-8. They have a reputation for being thirsty.
