Hello there,

My wife has a 1995 Mitsubishi Magna ts (2.6l) which she has had nothing but trouble with. It's motor was replaced by its previous owner so we aren't entirely sure what mileage the motor has done. It's petrol/lpg and has a 60l lpg tank and only get on average 300km on the open road with no steep hills etc. Is this normal as I know nothing about lpg cars?

Any help would be great!

Cheers

Rob

The 2.6lt motor is known as a real work horse. L200's of that vintage used a very similar motor, the big difference was the location of the waterpump and the timing chain set up. Magna's had the engine fitted East - West and L200 North - South.
The only relatively common isue with Magna's were noisey timing chains and the occasional leaing waterpump. If the engine's didn't get a chance to overheat and had no issues with timing chains, they generally lasted a very long time. Some have recorded huge mileages without the need of major engine repairs.
Both the Magna's and the L200's have been known to be very thursty. Many attempts have been made to lean them off. Either they lost power, had flat spots or surged uncomfortably but never ran very economically.
300km on 60lt LPG is very poor indeed. If your Magna is timed right and has good compressions, the fualt is most likely with the set up or the tuning of the LPG system. Your car should be seen by an experienced and qualified mechanic.
