Hi Jack,

I'm a bit curious as to how the fuelsaver figures quoted on trademe are arrived at. It seems weird that a 2002 Nissan Skyline V6 2.5 could have the same 4out of 6 fuel rating as a 2005 Toyota Corolla 1.8 with both being autos?

As far as we are aware the data on TradeMe comes from the government fuelsaver website http://www.fuelsaver.govt.nz/
We believe that the manufacturer's quoted figure is used to determine the star rating and in some cases it is possible that the exact model was not sold new in New Zealand, so a "similar" model could perhaps have been used.
We agree, these two cars would not have the same fuel consumption, so our advice is to use the information as a very rough guide and apply some common sense to the arrive at your own conclusion (which by qusetioning this, you have obviously done).
