Are petrol prices expected to increase over the next month or so?
Fuel prices are difficult to predict because they are determined by commodity prices and exchange rates, which change on a daily basis and are influenced by many unrelated factors. However, at the moment both oil prices and the NZ$ are relatively stable so I wouldn't expect much change in the next month, although retail prices are more likely to go up (a few cents per litre) than down. But in the medium-term, expect retail prices to rise further. $2.20 a litre for 91 octane petrol will be the new norm, its unlikely we will see lower prices this year as the NZ$ will not remain high, while oil prices will continue rising as global demand increases.
