hi, I have just bought a 2005 Nissan Pulsar 1.8 Q with 44000Km at the Ellerslie Car Fair. I got it checked there by vehicleservices who recommended I use 97 or 98 octane petrol, rather than 91, for greater fuel efficiency and less long term maintenance costs. I have tried and failed to find what Nissan recommend for this particular car. Do you know which fuel octane is best please ?

Our understanding is that Nissan recommends 91 for this vehicle. Testing we have done in the past has found that there is no advantage using a higher octane rating than the manufacturer recommends. Although there is occasionally a very small improvement in fuel consumption from using a higher octane rating, the higher cost of the fuel means that it still works out cheaper to use the lower octane fuel.
