Hi. What would be the fuel, depreciation and Road Users costs on a 2000 Toyota van travelling to work doing 45,000kms per year please? How much does that work out to per kilometre? Thank you.

Here at the AA we calculate running costs on an annual basis. However, this is calculated on vehicles at the third year of age, mainly for company use. We also break it down into various engine size classes and base it on NZ's average of 14,000km per year.
The biggest component of running such a vehicle is depreciation, however at 12 years of age much of the depreciation will have gone from your vehicle and with 45,000km per year, the "per kilometre" rate will be less.
For your information, the usual AA rate for a 2.4 litre vehicle under our calculation criteria would be 78.1c per km.
The IRD also has a rate, but their one is across all vehicles. I believe the IRD rate is .74c per km.
In reality, your vehicle would be significantly less. While we don't have a formal calculation on a vehicle of this age and annual mileage, a guestimate would be around .30c per km.
