Hi,
We are looking at buying a Ford Territory, although we are a little wary of the fuel consumption. Would I be correct in saying that it's probably better off spending a bit more and buying a later model, say a 2007 model, than an earlier 2004 model. Have Ford made much progress on reducing the fuel consumption?
I read somewhere that the 2004 models chug through 13.5 litres per 100km, is that right? Any advice you have would be much appreciated.
Cheers.
Don't expect a huge improvement in fuel consumption by moving up to a 2007 model especially with short runs.
We have been quoted figures as high as 16 litres per 100km for around town driving from one male driver we asked and he drives a 2007 model.
His wife can get that figure down to around the 13L/100km while on the open road (regular trips between Auckland and Taupo) they are averaging around 10.5L/100km. This where most of the fuel improvements have been made with the later models as one upgrade was the addition of an extra gear in the transmission.
Apart from the fuel bill, the Territory is a very good vehicle and ticks a lot of boxes fro those looking for comfort, practicality and a vehicle which can tow large loads comfortably.
