My question is , and please believe me I,m not having you on , is I have squeaky wheels/wheel in my 2002 ford fairmont s/w. It is the loudest when going slowly but you can still detect it at highway speed. Interestingly when I apply brake pressure the sound seems to go away , however having said that 2 reputable garages (including a very underwhelming Nth. Harbour Ford ! ) and hundereds of dollars later I am assured that the brakes are fine. I seem to be chasing my tail on this one so any ideas outside the braking system would be very much appreciated

Hi there,
This question is not as strange as it sounds. lol.
Other places to look is wheel bearings, make sure they are not loose or starting to wear and the hub is fretting. Try swapping wheels front to back left to right and seeing if the sound changes or moves. If not, then you know it is in the hub/brake area.
Do the wheels have plastic hubcaps? if so then check the tyre pressures are not too low and maybe try cable ties onto the rim. Make sure the wheel nuts are compatible with the wheels and the tapers are correct.
