The subject vehicle is a Japanese import. It is noisy inside. At first this was thought to be engine or exhaust noise, however whilst cruising downhill in neutral the noise is still there. It sounds like a rumbling or drumming noise. It has been suggested that wheel bearings torqued too tight may cause this noise. It does not sound typically like worn bearings that I have experienced in old vehicles some many years ago. Any clues?

Hi there,
That is true, wheel bearings can be noisy, but not usually due to over torqueing as they are pre-loaded.
But I would most likely be looking at your tyres, they may be hard or old or even could be the certain brand of tyre making the noise. Maybe a rotate front to back might give a small insight. You might want to run down to a tyre shop and have them give an assessment of tyre condition, with regards to possible road noise.

Hi Cade.
Thanks for your response. Tyres are in good condition and are Bridgestone Nextry, no uneven wear, good tread.
