Hi there. I have a 2006 Hyundai Terracan 2.9 turbo diesel. We have begun to notice an exhaust-like smell in the cab. Our mechanic says there is no blow-by. We wonder if he is right. And if it could be a faulty PCV valve?

You may need to check the engine breather/ egr system. Also check the exhaust system for leaks or things melting onto it. Also check the there are no body seal or grommet leaks, where sources of fumes can leak into the cabin area.
It might take a bit of chasing to find, I'm not aware of any vehicle specific information on this subject.
