My car won't rev beyond 4,000 rpm. I asked your advice and fitted a new mass airflow sensor. Now the car will rev past 4,000 rpm when in neutral (which it would not do before, so a definite improvement), but will not rev past 4,000 rpm when in gear, whether automatic or triptronic (manual).

Any suggestions?

From here, you may need to take it to a BMW specialist who should know straight away what the fault/ faults are and point you in the right direction. The danger now is that you may end up replacing parts that won't make a difference, I'm sure yours won't be the only car to experience this kind of problem.
