Hi I have a 2005 nissan primera sw 2litre import with cvt transmission. I tow a light 6x4 trailer with approx 150-200kg tools around town on it each day. I heard that cvt transmission are not reliable when towing I know you don't have a crystal ball but would this sort of weight kill my transmission. Thanks
Hi there,
The CVT on these vehicles are proven to be problematic without towing anything, I wouldn't recommend putting anything more than a bike rack on your tow bar.
However the weight itself shouldn't be enough to kill a CVT in good condition.
Tow weights listed for late model CVT's are usually only a few hundred kg if listed at all.
Many people don't recommend towing with a CVT transmission.
