Hi Crew,
I have a nice Volvo S80 with the V8. Which is brilliant and fun to own.
I notice at a recent service the oil added was 5W30. The Owners Manual says that the Specifications are for 0w30. I am more interested than concerned about this(unless you guys think other wise.. Would this cause any problems? The Manual of course warns about using the wrong oils.
Thanks
Taman

Hi there,
The 0 weight oil will flow better at a very cold temperature than the 5, in general conditions
the oils would be very similar.
So I don't expect it to pose a very big problem unless you live in freezing temperatures, where the oil viscosity and flow on start-up are key. We may not experience conditions in NZ where the low temp viscosity plays a major part. If your vehicle has spent its life on 0w30 oil, then maybe switch back after this service.

Thanks for your email.. That may explain why these unusually cold days have made the car noisier than normal.. Very helpful thanks.
