I have a Kia Pregio 2005 van, it's a 2.7l diesel engine, non turbo, it's done 230,000 kms. I've recently noticed it blowing black smoke from the exhaust when going up steep hills and wondering if you could advise what it might be. I have checked the air filter which was clean, I replaced this along with the oil and fuel filters when I bought it 3-4 months ago.

With fairly high kms it could be a number of things. My thoughts are the injectors or injector pump may need looking at or servicing. However I recommend seeing a diesel specialist to take a look at your vehicle and advise on possible causes and areas to check, to avoid any un-necessary repairs/ expenses.
