Hi,
I just bought a Toyota Estima last week. As I checked the engine oil it was very low.
Now I want to top it up. The cap says I need 5W30 oil.
I got some 15W30 oil from my last car left can I use this as well? Where is the difference? Is it better to buy 5W30 oil?
Cheers

Hi there,
Ultimately it is best to top up with the same oil used when the oil was changed. However you may not always know what was used last, especially when you first buy a vehicle. I think this oil would be ok to use as a top up, but when you carryout an oil change it is good to use the recommended oil and carry a little bit extra as spare to use for top ups as required. The difference is the oil viscosity when hot and cold, the extra oil you have will be a little thicker when cold than a 5 weight would.
