I believe that certain dern semi-synthetic oils will extend the service life of diesel engines. e.g. some of the later Ford commercial diesels now have a service cycle of 40,000km.

Before making use of a more modern oil I just wanted to check and be sure that a modern semi-synthetic 15/40 oil will be ok for the TD27 range of engines. (mine has a turbo). Thank you.

Hi there,
If you are intending on not servicing your vehicle for 40k, I would definately consult the manufacture and make sure your vehicle is designed for this. You would also need to know exactly what oil they are using. Because I would imagine it would be a specific long-life oil.

Hi there,

Was thinking more of 20,000 and the oil is certainly capable of that. Volvo and Ford diesels use it for 40K. Tried getting hold of the oil company with no success, and Nissan wont advise.

It won't be off the shelf oil, it would be specifically designed for the manufacture as a long-life product.

That's correct. It is. It's a Titan product. My question was more to do with will the TD27 handle a semi-synthetic. Any ideas on that?

The Castrol website is very useful, it lists all the different grades that can be used for your particular vehicle. If they list a semi synthetic oil for your vehicle or others with TD27 engines then you should be ok.
