Hi
I am doing an oil change on a 1996 Mitsubihsi Lancer MX 1.5 DOCH. The car is my flatmates and has done 255000kms.
Generally the engine runs and drives good, but does have a predominant tappeting noise. Being that the car is older, and as the old oil has gotten older it has lost a reasonable amount of oil over the last 3 months (may be burning some, was at full when bought in June, but is now at low). I have purchased 20w-50 Castrol GTX for it. I am going to do an oil flush as well. I realise this weight of oil is higher than what was recommended when it was new, but is 20w-50 going to be good for it now? I just want to double check, as I don't want the car to run poorly.
Thanks
Mitchell
Hi there,
The oil is a bit different to what is specified, but I wouldn't think it would cause any issues on a vehicle of this age and mileage. Bare in mind the car is old and nearing end of life.
