I have Mitsubishi Lancer 2005 NZ new - it has developed ignition problems which require replacing the ignition switch - my question is what should be the approximate cost of this repair in total by my local garage?

There are too many variables to be able to give you a price. The garage will be able to give you a quote, and even get two quotes and compare to two garages.
Factors will be, hourly rate, cost of parts new/ used. Key re-coding, which will be outwork
at a locksmiths. Ignitions are not easy to remove, and may take an hour or more to carry out the job.
