Our Ford (2006) had some minor rust spots on the hood. I fixed this by sanding down and applying primer. It is protected now, but of course it's not looking nice.
I want to paint it as well, but do I need to repaint the entire hood?
We don't care if you can see a minor difference, I want to do this to increase resell value. Repainting entire hood is something I don't think I can do, but only a part is something I can do myself.
This is a job best left to a professional, and really does need the whole bonnet repainted. This is especially so if it is a metallic colour, as there's no way you'll be able to blend it in. Solid colours are less problematic, but you're still unlikely to be able to do a reasonable job at home without repainting the whole bonnet.
If you really want to try doing it yourself, it would be best to get an automotive paint supplier to mix you up a spray can of the correct colour.
Thanks for your prompt reply.
I requested some quotes and it will cost about NZD 300-600 to repaint the bonnet. I think that's not worth the money, as it's only cosmetical.
Obviously, it's up to you whether or not to have it done professionally, but I believe a professional job would help to sell the car. If the bonnet looks patchy and in poor condition, that could potentially put buyers off, so you may find that you'd more than recoup the outlay in the selling price.
Many car dealers have bonnets resprayed as a matter of course to get rid of stone chips and present the car in the best possible light to obtain the best price.
Depending on what model car it is, I would have thought $300-$400 should normally cover the cost. $600 sounds quite high to me.
