Hi. I recently bought a 1999 mazda familia with 172000kms on the clock. As Ive only driven a manual..im still getting used to automatics. The car seems to drive really well..its quiet, smooth and good performance. However, when im at traffic lights or intersections in drive and ive got the foot on the brake to prevent it moving foward, it has a noticable (not big) shudder. The gears when driving change well, is this a problem? If so, how much is the general pirce for a gearbox service and how often should I get that done? Thanks

I suspect the shudder you are referring to is not a transmission fault, but merely caused by the ruduced engine revs when the vehicle is stationary and in gear - although without experiencing it first hand, I'm only making an assumption based on having experienced the shudder/vibration with other cars under similar circumstances.
It would pay to run your car into a garage and get your mechanic to sit in the car and experience the shudder you refer to, in order to make sure it's not an actual fault.
