I have read recently that fuel contains additives at the pump and was wondering if it is necessary (or recommended) to use lead replacement additived for old vehicles (1960's/1970's vehicles).

The fuel additives (such as Techron,Ultimate, etc) are used for their cleaning properties and it's not intended as a lead replacement additive. You will need to use an appropriate lead replacement additive.
