My 1998 Peugeot 306 XT had it's cambelt last replaced at a mileage of around 70,000kms in late 2007. I've been told by a couple of places to get it done, due to a time period being passed, however a couple of places have told me to hold back for a little bit because the car has not exceeded the mileage due date. With the car at just over 126,000kms, can someone please tell me when this is supposed to be done and the rough cost of one? This only averages out to be around 8,000kms per year. Some guidance would be appreciated.

The advice you are being given is strictly correct. Manufacturers usually recommend a mileage and time interval - with the information I have on the 306 being 5 years. Therefore, to be on the safe side, it should be done.
I'd imagine the cost to do the job properly, including water pump, idler, tensioner etc, would be around $800.

I have a 1999 Peugeot 306, which needs the cambelt replaced. It has done 160,000kms and previously had the cambelt replaced at 79,000kms. Can you please itemise what else I should ensure is done at the same time. I see you have listed: water pump, idler, tensioner etc. What does the etc include?
thanks
