Dear advisor,

As per your advice (Thanks) I took my car back to the repairer (Honda agent in Christchurch) and was told after it was checked that a seal is leaking, leading to the loss of 1 litre of AT fluid. It was suggested to me that I may have to pay for the labour of 1 hour to replace the seal, and the price of the seal itself. I asked about warranties but was told that as the manager was not around, a decision could not be made by the workshop person I spoke with.

I wonder if payment by me is a justifiable case, since before the transmission replacement was authorised, I had been told that the used transmission has a 3-month warranty. Furthermore, surely the repairer guarantees its workmanship and probably should have spotted the leak before completing the repair. It seems the repairer may need to sort out the leaking seal issue with the supplier of the transmission, rather than just asking me to foot the bill.

I would appreciate your expert advice.

Thanks again.
Leo

Agreed. If the transmission has a 3 month warranty it should not have a fluid leak so should be covered by the warranty.

Hi Andrew,

Thanks very much for your valuable advice. Fortunately there was no additional bill to pay.

Cheers.
