I own a 1998 Isuzu Mu which recently blew a turbo. I have had that repaired, but the repairer is now saying I must get the fuel injectors serviced.

What I am wanting to know is, if the fuel injectors are faulty, would that damage the turbo as this model has already been recalled for faulty fuel injectors.

I can understand the reasons they are recommending the fuel injectors be serviced.

Injectors can oversupply fuel to the combustion chambers through leakage and create what is called 'bore wash' which in a nutshell means fuel can bypass the piston rings and end up in the sump mixed with the oil.

Engine oil is used to lubricate the Turbo unit which I suspect is the reason for the injector service recommendation.

If the injectors were replaced or serviced as part of a recall then they may be fine but how do you know?

If for example, the vehicle has travelled less than 40,000km's since the recall then the injectors may be fine.

A phone call to your nearest Holden dealer may be worth a shot. If you get a vague answer ask them to contact Holden NZ for some advice on your behalf.

I have heard of costs upwards of $1500 to carry out an injector service, so if it can be avoided then you will be saving yourself a lot of money.

Not doing it, could be more financially crippling however.
